I didn't think there were that many interesting decisions in the match last night. I'll go through and try to find one or two that were worth discussion:

AQJ4 AT8643 void AK5

vul / not and RHO opens with a weak 2. You'll get advance information that LHO will raise to 3

no trouble with first double

after 3d I am convinced p has some useful stuff
I just dont know where it is.

x again

over 3h* - 4d
over 3s - 4s
over 3n - 4h
over 4c - 4h
over 4h* - 5d exclusion
over 4s* - 5d exclusion
over 5c* - 5d exclusion

* these should not occur often

If p wants to defend I am not unhappy with defense
(not thrilled at maybe missing 63 heart fit) but
not unhappy.

My second choice would be 3h over 3d. If P has the
stuff I am convinced they have (and it is not in
dia) we should have little trouble reaching game.
The downside of 3h is if p bids 3n we wont know
if its a single stop or two (after x we know it
is one else p for penalty) and we might miss games
in spades or clubs. I would rate
x and x = 8
x and 3h = 6
nothing else is better and neither is perfect.
who knows maybe you can make 4h on a 61 fit when
they break 33:))))))))

I voted for double then 4, but wasn't really happy.

The first double is clear. The hand is too good for 2 and too flexible for a strong 3, plus the suit is too weak.

The second call is tougher. I think that a second double probably gets me showing hearts next time anyway...even if he bids spades, I'd be tempted to bid hearts (tho I probably would just raise). And while defending might be right, it's too rich for my blood.

Then the question is 3 or 4? I like my hand too much to not force to game....a LTC of 4. If partner is short in hearts, with long spades and too little to bid earlier, he is allowed to bid 4, since I have promised a flexible hand (at least, that's my story)

Phil asked this hand to me on the phone last night when i was driving but the hand he gave me was AQJx ATxxxx void Axx (not AKx) at least thats what i thought he said.

So my answer was 2 and at the moment i didnt understand why he was surprised, now i can see.

With this i would DBL and then bid 3.
