I had a strong hand recently opposite partner's Jordan 2NT: 1-(dbl)-2NT . I just settled for game, but realized I had no clear way to explore for slam. With some partners I've agreed a new suit shows a singleton (ala Jacoby), but as 3 would not be forcing, it's harder to show a strong hand with no singleton. I suppose 3NT could be 16+. bridgehands has a 3 gadget rebid. Anyone have experience or a (preferably simple) scheme? Jordan itself is rare enough and I can't recall another case where I had slam interest. For discussion, I had something like xx AQxxx Ax AQxx; the Jordan bid promised limit+ values and four card support.

Which is probably why there aren't well-known continuations. With LHO having opening bid strength, it's pretty rare to be able to make slam. Especially if the bigger hand is opener's -- any finesse are likely to be losing to the doubler.

I've always thought it was standard to play:

3M = minimum
4M = max but not very slam interested
3NT = balanced with extras
Else = same as over Jacoby (so 3x = singleton)

I play this in partnerships other than those where we play 2NT as a limit+ raise outside of competition (in which case we just play our normal followups).

IMO, 3NT as balanced with extras would mean a whole lot of extras...interested in slam only if my Jordan guy was on the + of L.R.+. In a strong NT context, that would be the only balanced with extras possible; but in any methods, it seems best from a leakage standpoint to just accept or not accept, unless slamming.

Also, Jordan after 1MX should itself be balanced, and the unbalanced L.R. can mini splinter 2S(or 3m)/1HX or 3 any/1SX. The leakage is about the hand which will be dummy.

Is Standard not that Opener bids 3 with a strong hand and then Responder describes further?

What we do:

3 of a suit below ours long suit game or slam try, usually 4+ cards
3M minimum
3 of a suit above ours, slam try, natural
3N balanced and big (in a 4M context where we open the minor with 4M4m, so 44 majors or 3433)
4 of a suit below ours, splinter, slam try
4M usually a little above minimum with 6 card suit

We play fit jumps rather than splinters to give an idea of source of tricks.
