But pair D did know that they were playing against the best pair. And they also knew that their expected score would go up (considerably) by not playing the board. Naturally noone would suggest cheating in such a situation...but it is certainly unfair for a pair to have to play 5 boards against the best pair in the room rather than 4. Playing only 3 against the weakest pair is not such an issue most of the time since they might have played zero had the movement worked out differently.

I thought the recommendation was to have them play a different set of boards, not to skip playing boards against this pair.
