A limited auction at MPs? I can't see any reason not to look for the most passive lead - a .

On 1-2-3-4-all pass auctions I was once told lead a trump and if I don't have one borrow one from the next table.
(I think that's originally a quote from Rixi Markus but cannot remember the origin)

I lead trump.
It would be less obvious for me if I had xx trumps. With xxx it's almost wtp for me.

I tried a Bird/Anthias spade ace and met with this layout:

I got happy when pard encouraged, but dismayed in the end when it handed the contract Posted Image

In retrospect a passive diamond would probably be better, as RHO is the stronger hand.

I seriously doubt Bird/Anthias would have advocated the AS on that auction. Even in their chapter on leading empty aces from medium length suits, they basically apologise for it, IIRC, and say 'this is the most double-dummyish part of the book'.

it would certainly be close between spade ace and a diamond. Perhaps the spade 10 would swing it towards the diamond.

I have fair chance of having a couple of entries and a trump lead
has a fair chance of cutting down on probable dummy ruffs. I realize
other leads can succeed and that a trump lead can easily give up a
tempo but they are all much more speculative than the attempt to
cut down ruffs.

There are two main reason why responder went to game--power (which makes
any side suit lead much more dangerous) or distribution (screaming for a trump
lead). That seems to mean a trump is safer than most side suit leads and quite
possibly can be more effective.
