You've asked for preference in the black suits and yet partner has repeated his
own suit i.e.sign off so what's with the jump to 4♦??? Holding the
North cards I would just bid 5♦ as the best fit suit and leave the rest
to partner. I'm visualising the South hand as something like this:-

So you're visualizing a NON-FORCING 1♠ rebid with 22 HCP? How strong do you suggest before you make a forcing bid?

would seem to be a gross misdescription of the "visualized" hand you provide.

And the meaning of the 4♦ bid (Splinter), as Tramticket explains, is obvious. However, if you are unsure of a bids meaning, you can click on the highlighted yellow over the bid. A concise explanation will be provided to you.

Finally, if you require a definition of "Splinter bid," I'm sure others will be happy to provide one for you. But since you are "too long in the tooth" to be "educated," that may be a waste of time.

Since I usually have but don't promise 6 hearts (KQJTx and out) I think partner has at least A♥ plus some combination of A, A, K in the blacks with a little something else or I win the post mortem.

Might need a spade hook/split, ruff out a club with them 4-4 in the opps hands but the 4♦ bid is so huge it can have another key card, a 6th club and or a diamond void so I'm into 6♥.
