Hello all,

We are thinking of replacing our single event structure with two separate events because of significantly different pace of the players:

- Event 7A: a Modified-swiss tournament with 2 x 16 board matches assigned at the beginning of each week. Format: Best-hand IMP, takes 4 weeks (8 matches) but may be changed to 5 weeks if we have too many players. Open to anyone.

- Event 7B: Round-robin then Knock-out tournament, with 5-7 matches(12 to 16 boards) per week. Format: Best-hand IMP, planned time is 3 to 4 weeks, but may be shorter or longer based on the number of entrants. Unfortunately, we have to exclude players who were (i) not following the post daily, (ii) not playing in the suggested speed in the previous competitions. Therefore, you can register but your spot is not guaranteed (I promise we will be as flexible). For a player who never played in any of the competitions, we will ask for at least two references - references can leave me a message in BBO.

Important note: A player can register for both events at the same time. We will start the registration process soon.

We are going to switch back and forth. However, I strongly prefer IMP Swiss as a starting point for the slow pace event. For the fast event, I am quite sure that we will be switching between all different options.

Frank, the number of 'ties' to determining the best contest are about as relevant as the color of the deck.

One of the pluses I found about event #6 was that it was non best hand. Is there any chance we can use that format again, if not in this event then future ones?

Yes. I thought that had been established as standard for these events. Was it perhaps a typo?

Since people are not playing the same sets and it is a Swiss only (No KO), we go with Best-Hand in the first event. We don't want that a match defends 13-14 out of 16 hands and other match only defends 2-3. It will create completely different number of opportunities for the players. Plus, defending with GIB is mostly random, expert players say.

What is missing in bridge is quality plays. Swiss team event gives you chance to do such plays. I like it.

Yes, RR/KO - we always rotate between different options. This time we go with IMPs-BestHand.

References? Are they applying for work?

If theres a new player all they should be required to do is register and/or play an Arena challenge to make sure they understand the process.

That is for the fast-pace event.

Last time more than half of the newcomers were not able to follow the posts in the forum / send a challenge / understand it was a tournament etc. We want to keep fast-pace event as small as possible so we can actually do a cool RR, at least in the first time.

Instead of making it a invitational or closed event, we decided to add people if someone gives a good reference for them - saying something like "this person knows about how it works, and can commit 6-7 games per week". Dropouts in the middle of the tournament is so painful to deal with.

Note that slow-pace Swiss is open to anyone.

When will it start? Because I am now for another 1 and a half weeks in Zambia were we don't have wifi, if it starts afterwards I would like to join the 7A tournament
