Can anyone please explain to me why my partner and I receive different IMPs results at the end of a session of play

This is just a guess on the limited description 
Some activities on BBO are asynchronous, that is they appear to happen at random times.
For instance you play board 1 and may score +2.0 imps on it. But if it is only the third time that this board has been played, your imp score will vary until it has been played sixteen times. Your BBO, and your partner's BBO, will not receive these updates at precisely the same time so depending on when you look the score will differ.
But if you go to the myhands database, or look at your recent boards in the History tab, later you will see the final results when all the hands have been played sixteen times.
