changing game parameters mid-game

Is it possible / safe to change certain game parameters (# boards; # minutes/board) in the middle of a game?

Minutes/board is safe to change, and I do that regularly. I haven’t tried the others, but it seems dangerous.

Pretty sure it's not possible to change the number of boards once started, or number of rounds.
