I got an email from the congress organiser. I don't know how clear Realbridge is that it can't run a three way, but they didn't realise this was the case till Friday hence no standby team. They closed the entry with an even number of teams then a team dropped out on the day.
They are refunding us double our entry fee.

It's a decent gesture, entry was only £12 so didn't cover my additional costs, but better than nothing and an acknowledgement they should have done better. They will have a standby team if they organise anything else.
