You stumble into 6 on this collection. T of hearts lead. What's the best line?

Edit: Auction uncontested and unconvincing so not relevant :)

Good hand to post, Stephen. If no opps. bidding, I would go for trying to set up the suit in the South hand as odds on a 4/3 split are about 62%. The problem are the entries if the trump suit does not split 2-2. (Only had a quick look and will come back.)

Auction is relevant in that would be nice to know who didn't overcall at what level.

My first thought is A, A, ruff, A and see what appears.

I had a long answer almost written, but realized I’d miscounted the situation on one of the possible permutations

Basically, I’m playing to establish diamonds while hoping for a little luck in trump

Win the heart ace, ruff a heart, pitch a heart on the spade ace, ace of diamonds, ruff a diamond, club Ace

I’m planning a second club, but obviously my line will vary according to which clubs appear on round 1.

If the King is stiff on my right, draw trump ending in dummy and play diamonds from the top, making 13 if diamonds are 3-3

If the king is stiff on my left, club to the queen, ruff a diamond, ruff a spade and run the diamonds until RHO ruffs in, then claim

If the Jack appears from either player, I need either 2-2 clubs or 3-3 diamonds (on the second club, either player with Kxx can win the king and play another club, preventing me from ruffing a second diamond.

If you play on diamonds, East plays the T & 9 on the first two rounds as West follows low. If you cash the ace of clubs at some point, West drops the J.

I like this line, mikeh.

I calculated that odds are as follows:-

25% K or J dropping stiff
38% K or J dropping stiff or part of doubleton KJ
53% 2-2 or stiff K dropping
68% K or J honor card not appearing when A is cashed.

Does this help?

Spoiler

So on the layout at the table, 7 is possible DD but not realistic IMO. Mike's line can no longer be made vs best def at point where CA is cashed. Cyberyeti's line is still alive, as long as the next moves are to ruff a spade and either DK or try to ruff another diamond, not to try a 2nd club.

There seem to be lots of different possible lines, I still have no clue what's best considering all the possibilities for EW. Also plausible starts, IMO, are:
- HA, DA DK d ruff (with 7 if rho followed)
- HA, DA d ruff, spade ruff, DK
- HA, DA d ruff, SA, sp ruff, DK

I gave it to GIB, it seems to prefer not cashing CA until after few ruffs, tends to go for cross-ruffing to start then continuing once East showed up with 2 diamonds.

Was intending to ruff a diamond after ruffing a small spade. cashing the K looks horribly wrong if E actually has QJ109 and you haven't cashed the top club.

If S deals, 1-2-2-3 and S can go nuts, possible grand on opposite x, Ax, Axxxx, Kxxxx which is surely not completely out of the question

Quite possible if N deals too, 1-1;2 and S is ready to go.
