Pass. This hand does not meet my opening standards, and I don't think it's profitable to preempt with this hand either. We have the boss suit and RHO has passed, better to wait for partner.

Some people play a 'both majors' preempt but these typically start at 5-4. I think this hand is not even that suitable for such an opening, to be honest.

I hope to get into this auction later, no sensible opening bid (and I DO play 2 as both majors)

Pass is the only systemic call with this hand playing standard methods.

I would open 2 (canapé preempt in spades OR unbalanced GF with primary spades) in my system.

I notice that Ekren 2 is defined (by Ekren himself or by Chris Ryall?) as

Quote

4- 4, 4-5, 5-4 or 5-5 in major and 3-10 hcp regardless of vulnerability.

here, which by my reading excludes hands with more extreme shapes like 5-6. I wonder if this is intentional or just the usual sloppiness. ("Our one spade opening shows five spades.")

We don't even play 5-5 in first seat

Frelling 2 is defined as 4+ & 4+ or 5+ so if worried about having 65 just call the convention by a different name. In practice I view this 6-card suit as a 5-carder given the suit quality. I doubt this hand will play anywhere but a Major so 2 is the easiest way to state your intentions.

If I'm looking at my hand on BBO I see the spades longer than the hearts, so the choice is simple :)
