If partner bids 4D, i'll bid 4S. My club king is dubious and my hand isnt great.

2♠ followed by 4♠ (over Pards ♦bid)

4S.
I have fit, I show my fit, only alternative is 3S,
giving partner a chance to look for slam, but
then, I do not really want to encourage him,
and 4S does promise a hand containing at least
one trick.
With kind regards

Don't you play serious 3NT??? Jumping in GF auctions with an unlimited partner is imo one of the worst things you can do, since you take away lots of bidding space without any propper reason...

Hi,
I play it, as can be seen in another thread, I even
overuse it, at least according to some comments ...
The question you have to answer is, do you want to
send an encouraging signal regarding slam chances to
partner, then bid 3S, if not, 4S.
Contrary to joker_gib, I assume 2C as "american style",
i.e. forcing, but not necessarily game forcing, but still stronger
than a 2C opener "european style" ("semi-forcing), in other
words, 2S can be passed.
=> 4S shows live, but nothing more, take away the King and
a pass may be ok, at least playing matchpoints.
With kind regards

When playing 2♣ as GF, imo 3♠ doesn't encourage p for slam, it just sets the fit, and wants to know if p has extra's or not. If he hasn't, he'll bid 3NT, otherwise he'll cuebid. This way you can at least find out if you have suits unstopped before starting with slambidding, even if p has extra's. I don't expect p to start with RKC before cuebids
When playing 2♣ NOT as GF, then why would 3♠ be stronger than 4♠? Can't it be invitational?

The question is, which hands would like
to stop in 3S?
How many are there?

1) 2Clubs is not game force
2) 2D is game force, shows 1+ controls.
BWS
Hmm if possible please respond to question 2 as combined with question one focus on main issue with these hand types. Thank you in advance.

1. I bid 3S, tell partner the good news that we have a fit. IMHO Not good enough for an advanced cue.
2. Partner rebids 4D and I will bid 4S. Even though I have 4 Diamonds, I have none of the top 3 honors. If partner has a true "big 2 suiter," he might rebid 5D to clue me in. At which time I will bid 6D
We never know from day to day which ones we'll have to eat.

to a degree a matter of partnership agreement. Did you agree to make a double negative bid first with less than a certain number of "points"? IMO, ye has JTx trump support (a good holding for J-3rd: potential entry), and an outside control. No need to jump to 4♠ on 2nd bid to show support and nothing else: you have something else. If opener wishes more information, all he/she has to do is ask! like: "you got any 8s?"------"No, go fish"!
